Music Lessons are a wonderful way to bring joy into you or your child's life, encourage your child to explore his or her creativity and self-discipline, and stretch the elasticity of the brain!
My approach to music lessons is that it should be fun, I try to follow you into the music that you want to make while keeping a grip on traditional music theory and ear training, we extend out into improvisation, jazz, blues, contemporary music, and songwriting. Sometimes, I will bring in other instruments for a "jam session."
Private Piano Lessons Provided In-home. Davida has almost a decade of experience teaching piano to ages from 3 to adult. Davida brings all her experience into the lesson, blending traditional music theory and ear training with contemporary comping, songwriting and composition.
Business Stuff
Lessons are $50/hr, $25/half-hr. This includes travel and time. If you need to cancel, please give 24 hours notice.
Recitals and Performance
I do not provide annual recitals. Occasionally, students’ parents have arranged an individual recital for their child or a student has participated in a school or extracurricular activity. I am more than happy to assist with these ventures and will provide whatever is needed to make sure that your child succeeds.
My Philosophy on Practice
I have a philosophy of engaging in a lot of musical play and improvisation as well as in teaching a child how to read music. I will do my best to go over music theory on a weekly basis, but progress in reading music will not be made without practice. I don’t mind providing “music time,” but if your goal is to have your child actually learn how to read music, then it is up to you, the parent, to encourage your youngster to practice, which often requires the participation of the parent.
Other instruments
Since my background is in Music Therapy, I play and have access to quite a few instruments (guitar, electric guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, violin, hand drums, regular drums, and other percussion instruments!). Once in a while I may bring another instrument to play during the piano lesson. This is intended to give your child the opportunity to explore his or her self-expression and creativity, as well as open their mind to other musical possibilities.
